Update on Ahren's Diet

We went to see the dr. this week as a follow up to the strict diet we have Ahren on.  Earlier in the summer we found out that his allergies to wheat, soy and latex are as high as his allergy to peanuts.  So, the diet has been consuming our summer, trying to get the right food in him at the right intervals has been exhausting.  Thankfully, Tim has been home and Ahren has been, for the most part, willing.  Our family has also been so helpful and encouraging, making meals that are Ahren friendly when we visit!!

So, this week we went back to the dr.  We were a little concerned that he was losing weight because he was just looking so skinny!  For a boy who was 30 lbs at 1 year we never thought his metabolism would catch up :)  But, in the 5 weeks since we were at the dr. last, he gained 2 lbs and grew 3/4"!  No wonder he's looking so lean!

The dr. did give us a little latitude on the diet, rotating most things every 2 days instead of 4.  We think we're going gluten-free (except for this weekend when we've had pizza and corn dogs!) just to make life a little simpler rather than tracking when he can have wheat and when he can't.

School starting next week will pose a new set of challenges.  What to pack and will he eat what I pack or trade it for something else???
