Similar to THIS post, my husband did it again. He went to Soulard market on Saturday at 3:30 right before closing time at 4:00. The farmers have been there since Wed. and won't be back until next Wed. and they're ready to go home without produce and with money.
So, he managed to snag 45lbs of pears, 50lbs of peaches, 25 green peppers and 8 quarts of strawberries. All for $45!
What in world do you do with all of this? Well, to be exact, you get:
5 peach pies
3 recipes of peach sorbet
3 recipes of strawberry sorbet
5 pints of peach jam
5 quarts of peach juice
7 quarts of canned peaches
5 pints of pear jam
4 pints of pear jelly
10 pints of pear sauce (almost better than apple sauce!)
15 quarts of canned pears
4 gallon baggies of fruit to eat and share with friends
2 gallon baggies of blanched and frozen pepper slices
They look pretty, don't they? I'm so thankful to have all of this even though I had to give up my kitchen for the weekend! Thanks, Tim!
