Project 52: #13 Joplin Assistance

For 52 Smiles this week, we're calling all of our friends, family and even enemies (not that we have any!)

My church is partnering with a church in Joplin to provide some assistance.  Here is a list of items needed:

Urgent Needs

  • Perishable Fresh Food items (meats, cheeses, bread, eggs, milk, fruits and vegetables)
  • Antihystamines, sunblock, insect repellant, aloe vera, chapstick, denture supplies, small and medium Depends, and shaving cream
  • Self standing shelving
  • Heavy Duty Black Trash Bags   -   25 boxes
  • Wet Vacs - 5
  • Rectangular tables 6 ft or 8 ft - 30
  • Round tables - 4
  • Plasitic Rubbermaid or Sterilite Style Storage Totes/Crates/Bins with lids   -   1000
  • Extra Large Ice Chests - 5
  • Popup Sun Shelters - 3

Immediate Needs

  • Gift cards to places like Walmart
  • Full and queen size sheets
  • Heavy Duty Leather Work Gloves   -   100 pair
  • OSHA Approved Class C Hard Hats (any color)   -   100
  • Safety Eyewear (tinted or clear)   -   100
  • OSHA Approved Hearing Protection (minimum 85 dB or better)  -  100 sets
  • Hard Sole Work Boots (womens sz 8, mens sz 11, including other adult sizes, steel toe better)
  • Calf High Crew or Athletic Socks   -   100 pair
  • 16 inch or longer Gas Powered Chain Saws with Replacement Chains (Stihl or Husqvarna better)   -   9
  • Leather Chaps   -   12
  • 2 way FRS/GMRS Dual Band Durable Handheld Radios (cell phone services give "all circuits are busy" message)  -   25

Near Term Needs

  • Flat Bottom Scoop Shovels   -   20
  • Lehman's Style Rugged Steel-tIne Rakes with wood handles   -   95
  • Rolls of Duck Tape   -   300
  • Blue Tarps (all sizes)   -   950
  • Grounded Power Cords (minimum 15 amp, 50 feet or longer length)   -   37
  • Lithium-ion Rechargeable Power Tools with Replacement Batteries

Always Needs

  • Electrolytes (G2 better)

Long Term Needs

  • Non-perishable Food Items (New Creation Church is now a designated area Distribution Center)
  • Bedding for cots (New Creation Church is now a designated safe shelter)
If you can help with any of these needs, we're asking you to drop your donation at the Riverside Office at 13 W. Moody in Webster Groves by Tuesday, 5/31/11.  There is a group of people leaving Wed. to drive the donations to Joplin and stay to help for a few days.

I know it's short notice, and it's a holiday today, but if you can, please consider helping out.  Tell them 52 Smiles sent you :)
