Project 52 #9: Surprise Flowers

To combine May Day and Mother's Day, this week we chose a flower theme.  We made bouquets of filler flowers, put them in mason jars and tied with yarn.  So pretty!  The kids colored little tags that we tied on as well.

We made the first delivery to our neighbor, a few doors down, Ms. Tootie.  She is a dear widow that loves our kids!

 She was so surprised and genuinely pleased to receive such a nice gesture from the kiddos.

Our second delivery was to a place that always seems to be full of...well, crabby people.  We thought delivering flowers to the DMV might bring some smiles to the people that work there, day in and day out.  A lady from the nail salon next door came out before we made it to the front door and wanted to know what we were doing.  Annie tried to give her the flowers, but she refused.  Annie was a little bewildered, but we just explained that we would give them to someone else inside.  At first the workers seemed a little confused - even asked us who we were with.  Like we were some sort of organization put up to the task.  We answered that we were just two families bringing smiles to other people.

There were about 6 ladies that were working and about 30 people waiting to be helped.  It was actually a little nerve racking walking in there in front of all of them!  By the time the last lady was handed her flowers, all of them were glowing and smiling.  It was so sweet to see the kids handing the flowers to people they didn't know.

I hope the flowers are lasting through the weekend and maybe even that someone took them home to enjoy!  Afterwards, we stood outside and prayed with the kids.  Parker prayed for us this time!  We all prayed that the ladies would feel blessed and loved by our small act of kindness.  Because sometimes in life it's the small things that matter the most!
