This week in honor of Earth Day we went to pick up trash at our new favorite hiking spot, Emmenegger Nature Trail.
A quote from C.S. Lewis says it so well: "Christians who do the most for the present world are those who think most of the next." A perfect combination for Earth Day and Good Friday.
I love this project because it teaches us a life skill. If you see trash, pick it up. Not hard, no big deal really, and it makes life easier and prettier for all involved. And for Pete's sake, don't litter. Tim and I believe in proactive parenting as much as possible. When Ahren was about 2, we would take walks and when we saw trash we would casually mention that the right thing to do was pick it up and take it with you. No matter where you are, you can always find a trash can, even if you carry it all the way home. Well, the sweet, obsessive personality that my son has went overboard on this. We couldn't hardly drive down the road without him seeing some trash and wanting to stop the car to pick it up! When we go on walks now we have to take a trash bag with us.
We certainly picked the best time of day as storms moved through by mid-day. My camera wasn't cooperating very well, but I did get a few shots.

| Love this shot, too! It was fun for Tim to be able to come with us since he was off for Good Friday. Ahren was really sad that he had to go to school, but since Bailey had to go to school too, he managed :)  Here are the kids with their trash treasures. Notice the sign behind them?
