This has become one of my favorite days of the year. We go apple picking with my parents, and sometimes my brothers and their families. We started when I was pregnant with Ahren, so this was our seventh year. We go to the same place every year - Centennial Farms in Augusta, MO. My dad grew up in Augusta and loves returning to the beautiful countryside. The owner of the orchard was his science teacher in high school! There have been a few changes in the 7 years we've been going. This year, only the Golden Delicious were ready to be picked...and there weren't many trees to choose from. The apples were $1.40/lb which seems ridiculously high to me, but we're there for the experience, right? The little playground they have used to be free, but now it's $3/child. So, we skipped that part. At least the tractor ride out to the trees is still free :)
The highlight of the trip was the honey sticks. These kept the kids busy for a long time!
After we pick apples, we have a picnic in Klondike Park. Our picnic site is the best in the park (we think) and it's always vacant!! There is a great overlook and accessible, decent bathrooms. We usually pack sandwiches and a frisbee or football to play catch with.
Definitely one of my favorite days of the year!
