The last day...and the last week!

Today is a big day.  The last day of school!  Normally this day brings much excitement as I'm sure you can imagine.  Ahren is finishing first grade, Lydia kindergarten and Annie preschool.  Summer stretches ahead of us with promises of sleeping in, field trips and new adventures.  However, this morning brought sad tears as I dropped each of them off.  Because this isn't only the last day of the year for them, it's the last day ever at the school(s)!

Our biggest adventure this summer is the move.  One week from today, we're moving 45 minutes away from this home, this town, this school and this church and the friends we love so much.  We have lived here 8 years and have many friends.  I know the grocery store like the back of my hand.  The gas station is familiar.  We are known and loved in this place.  It makes me sad to leave.  Yet, I know that the Lord has something for us in the new place.  New friends, new schools, new church and new neighbors.  We'll be house-sitting for an undetermined amount of time.  Don't know if we're coming back to this place at all.  We may, but that much is not known yet.  We have a wonderful family renting our house and love that they will make 224 E. Glendale their home.

So today marks the last day of school and the last week of living in this home.  We have dedicated so many hours to making this house a home in the past 8 years.  Other people have donated countless hours as well.  Now we have a brand new canvas at the new house to call our own.  It's overwhelming and exciting all at the same time.  It promises to be an adventure.  I'm praying for new friends for the kids, and for me.  Friends that will become familiar faces in our new home.  Friends that the kids will see on the first day at the new school.  And if nothing else, Ahren and Lydia will have each other at their school and Maria and Annie will have each other.  And if that is all the Lord blesses us with for the first few weeks, it will be enough.  Enough because we do have each other and that is the only reason this move makes sense.
